EXPLORING URBAN TRANSFORMATION

THROUGH IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES

As ideas and plans turn into tangible reality, the urban environment is constantly transforming, creating new possibilities and connections.

Created in collaboration with world-leading design, architecture and engineering firm Arup, SOUNDSCAPES opens up the creation of the built environment by exploring unique, unusual and seldom experienced locations that form parts of the resurgence of urbanism and public transportation in Los Angeles.

The first chapter of SOUNDSCAPES – De Profundis – takes you deep underneath the streets of Los Angeles: Metro’s Crenshaw Line subway tunnel connecting downtown LA with Los Angeles Airport, with a powerful immersive experience capturing a specially composed performance by renowned LA Philharmonics cellist Ro Rowan.

With virtual reality’s unparalleled ability to capture space and presence through immersive sound and vision, SOUNDSCAPES rekindles a time-honored musical art form – that of composing music specifically for specific locations,  championing the ambience, acoustics and resonances of unique places, both new and historical.

Each SOUNDSCAPE episode is captured using state of the art stereoscopic virtual reality, and features ultra-high definition, ambisonic surround sound for full immersion.
